Services
In addition to routine and emergency consultations we offer:
New Patient Examinations
We aim to offer all new patients, over the age of 5 years, a medical examination when they join the Practice. To help us with this, we ask patients to complete a patient questionnaire and to bring a sample of urine along with them when they attend.
Childhood Immunisations
'We offer a comprehensive childhood immunisation service. A clinic is held weekly.
Childhood Development Checks
The Health Visitors and the Doctors offer a comprehensive childhood development check programme to pre-school children. The programme is in accordance with NHS guidelines.
School Leaver Clinic
We routinely offer all 16 year olds a health check to increase awareness of health risks and to update immunisation where necessary.
Diabetes
We offer special clinics for patients with this condition. This is to ensure that patients make the most of the available treatment and are helped to understand their condition. The doctors and nurses have defined protocols of care and review these regularly.
Hypertension and Coronary Heart Disease Clinics
These are clinics for patients who have had a heart attack, or suffer from angina, or hypertension, or who have risk factors that may lead to coronary heart disease.
Travel & Immunisations & Other Injections
We offer a comprehensive foreign travel immunisation service and are a recognised Yellow Fever vaccination centre.
In October each year we have a campaign of influenza and pneumococcal vaccination aimed primarily at the elderly, diabetes, heart and lung disease and the chronically ill.
Cervical Cytology
We offer a cervical cytology service (cervical screening test) to women according to the guidelines issued by the relevant Health Authority covering the county in which the patient lives. Results will be sent to each patient by letter.
Maternity
All the doctors have antenatal and postnatal care included in their surgery schedule. Antenatal and postnatal care is shared with our midwives.
Minor Surgery
A number of minor surgical procedures can be carried out at the surgery under local anaesthetic. Warts and verrucae may be treated by our Practice Nurses in our weekly cryocautery clinic. This is held every Wednesday. The procedure involves cryosurgery (freezing) treatment for warts and minor skin conditions. Patients should attend normal surgery for a doctor to assess the suitability for this type of surgery. Please make an appointment with reception.
Non-NHS Work
We can provide a range of non-NHS services for which we charge the standard fee recommended by the British Medical Association. These services include examinations for employers, solicitors, insurance companies, PSV, HGV and elderly driving licences.
Please note a charge is usually made for completing passport applications, holiday cancellation forms and insurance certificates. Please enquire at the reception desk for further details.
Medical Reports I Examinations
Routine examinations e.g. for insurance, normally require a longer appointment. Please inform the reception staff so that we can allow the necessary appointment time.
Please bring a urine sample to routine health checks and medical examinations.
Sickness Certificates
Doctors are not obliged to issue 'sick notes' for periods of absence from work of less than seven days, including weekends. After three days absence, you should obtain a self-certificate from your employer. If your employer insists on a 'private certificate' then either he or you must be prepared to pay a fee for this service.
Investigation Results
The doctor or nurse will advise you how to obtain the results of investigations at the time they are organised. Arrangements may be made for patients to attend again, otherwise results can be obtained by telephoning 0844 4996624 weekdays, 11 am – 4 pm.
Please note we like patients to be responsible for finding out the results of their tests. Results of cervical smear tests, taken by a doctor or nurse in the Practice, will be sent by letter.
All consultations with any of our practice staff are confidential. The results of inestigations for anyone aged 16 years or over will only be given to the patient him/herself, unless it has been agreed, in advance, with the doctor organising the test.
